Vanessa Bell
My passion for painting started as a child experimenting in class, but my career led me in a different direction from art, yet I remained fascinated by the subject and enthused by other artists. Many years later, after covid times, I decided to fulfil my dreams and return to the canvas at last!
The various lights, colours and energies of the atmosphere excite and inspire me to create land, sea and skyscapes, especially of places I visit and feel passionate about including local areas in Sheffield, the Peak District, the North Yorkshire coast, Wales and Scotland.
In my compositions I try to capture light, emotions and movement by using a variety of techniques such as dry brush, palette knives, cloths, sandpaper, scratching and scraping coupled with various paint consistencies, transparencies and mediums. These produce unique textures and appearances giving depth and tactile surfaces. I paint in acrylics and occasionally use small marks of oil pastel or crayon. My continuous exploration of new techniques is enhanced using a variety of colour which enables me to continue to create my individual pieces of artwork in the hope of sharing natural beauty and enjoyment with others.
